Homeschooling on the Road

My husband is a pipeliner. We travel to different parts of the country for several months at a time for his work, and then are usually back home (in Louisiana!) for several months. While we’re away, we live in a travel trailor! Yes, it is possible for 5 children and 2 adults to live comfortably in a travel trailor. Ours has 2 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms, a washer and dryer, and a pretty big area for playing! We enjoy playing outdoors in nice weather, and usually find plenty of fun things to occupy our time. Currently we are in New York, near the New Jersey state line!

We homeschool for several reasons. First of all, it is easy to pick up and go whenever my husband gets called to leave! We don’t have to keep taking them out of schools and putting them in new schools. And it’s not an option to be separated for long periods! Families need to be together, no matter how difficult it may seem. Second, I enjoy homeschooling! I love my kids and I love being with my kids. Some people think that’s strange, but I think it’s strange that some mothers look forward to putting their kids in school, all day long! And the most important reason we homeschool, is because I believe God placed it on my heart several years ago, when I first started. I want to live a life pleasing to Him, in total obedience to Him and His commands.

I am by no means a perfect teacher, perfect mother, or perfect daughter of the King. That is my desire, and I am pressing on toward that goal of perfection!
